Hopetoun House Wedding – Caroline & Stuart

I know I keep on about patience and how wonderful my couples are, but Caroline & Stuart have been absolutely brilliant over the past few months. They let me have control over the music for their Highlights film, they sat back and let me take whatever time I needed for the edit, and they have been SO excited to see the final film. (Also a huge thank you for the lovely bottle of Veuve! Yummy!)

The main feature edit is just lovely (even if I say so myself) so it was always going to be tough to create a highlights film that not only reached the standard of the main edit, but also told their story. I hope I managed it.

So, onto the wedding…

Caroline & Stuart were married at the spectacular Hopetoun House late last year. Their story is a beautiful one; a tale of long distance travel, of finally finding the right person, and about celebrating the true love between two people. Caroline & Stuart will have a wonderful life together. I know it’s said too often, but really, they are just perfect together.

The Wedding Film features a few amazing people along the way so they really do deserve a mention! Firstly the lovely peeps at BlueSky Photography. Alie & Niels are just so supportive of what we do, they just “get it”, which is brilliant. They give us a few moments here and there to make sure we all get what we need to tell our stories. We also have a great laugh too. I think it’s a good sign that the only film outtakes of the day were of us laughing together. If you don’t enjoy what you do, best find something else I reckon!

Next is Gemma and her team at Planet Flowers. Simply stunning….not sure I can find the words…just see for yourself in the film! The artistry is amazing.

The Ceilidh Band? Rerr Terr – so much energy, so much fun and real quality musicianship. Definitely not your run of the mill ceilidh band! Matched up with Stuart from Soul2Soul disco… some great lighting (SO UNDERESTIMATED, hint hint B&G’s…PLEASE think about your dancing lighting!!!). Overall, a perfect blend for the evening’s entertainment!

Finally the guys and gals at Hopetoun House itself. Total dedication to quality and a genuine wish to provide the very best customer service – something that is achieved at every single event they host. Very well done Jennifer and the Team at Heritage Portfolio! Oh and what a venue!

I know it might sound like an acceptance speech, but I really appreciate the support of these guys, and the quality and attention to detail of such high quality wedding suppliers.

So, the film…..

Well, I’ve rambled on too much in this post, I’m not sure there’s room to add a ‘video’  So, I’ll post that tomorrow.

I know, what a tease!

Steve x

Jazmine & Jordan – Wedding Film Highlights – Cherry Tree Films

This wonderful Scots-American Wedding was a total hoot. I think the best thing is that Jazmine and Jordan just enjoy life. They love each other immensely and enjoy every day that comes.

Jordan lives for his golf, so the chance to grab some shots of him teeing off was something I didn’t want to miss, and the cheesy setup shot of Jazmine looking down the fairway…you two are nuts (and funny). The Wedding Ceremony was at Cramond Kirk, followed by reception at The Royal Burgess Golf Society. A chilled, relaxing and great wedding day – interviewing your guests was a total hoot, some hilarious characters there all right! Oh and some truly awesome dancing…The Grease Medley will live with me forever:)

I do hope the feeling of ‘fun’ comes out in this film as that really is what the day was about, having fun with family and friends, but ultimately about celebrating love. Guys you were so great to work with, and it was brilliant to see Ashley & Malcolm again.

Take good care of each other!

March 23, 2011 - 9:30 pm

admin - Thanks Ashley, it was lovely to see you two again!! It really was a great day and the interviews were SO funny…yours included…”ahwooooo” he he :) Take care! Steve

March 23, 2011 - 9:27 pm

Ashley McPartlin - Another fantastic wedding film Steve! Thanks for doing it so well, it’s lovely to be reminded of Jordan & Jaz’s big day and how wonderful it was too. Nice to see you again too!

Team Paris – le film – Les Togs

Do you remember seeing a trailer a few months back about a trip to Paris last September (2010)?

Well the past few days have seen some frantic editing (outwith normal working hours!) and the completion of the main short film.  All just in time for our superb Paris showcase, held yesterday afternoon at Elemental Towers featuring the talents of Niels & Alie of BlueSky Photography, Jay & Christina of Elemental Weddings and Donna & Mark of Archibald Photography.  These guys shared with us some absolutely stunning photos of the trip, and even a couple of nice ones of me (astounding I know!)

What’s it all about? The recipe was simple:

Three brilliant photography companies and their families.
Stu and I. (DVD2 and DVD1)
Far too much fun.
Amazing Autumn Sunshine.

We had an absolute blast, with one and a half days of the trip devoted to a proper photoshoot in various locations around Paris. I’ll let the film describe the trip in more detail, but suffice to say that it was heaps of fun and this group of people are just awesome. Talented photographers yes, but just genuinely amazing people too.

So, the film?  The first two parts are filmed mainly with little handheld flipcams during the trip over to Paris and the touristy day afterwards.  These cams were looked after by one member of each ‘family’ so they are now affectionately known as Jed-Cam, Jack-Cam and Jay-Cam.    :-)

The main shoot day is mostly our footage (Stu and I) as we followed this mad bunch of folks through the streets of Paris.

Actually looking back, it’s all pretty nuts.  Think that’s genuinely the best introduction I can give.  Nuts!

I’m famous for my disclaimers (excuses).  The footage is rough and ready, all super chilled holiday style stuff, the challenge was to edit it into something watchable.  I’ll let you decide if I managed that – 14mins of mayhem.

Thank you BIG STYLE once again to everyone.  Jay, Hannah, Niels, Jed, Christina, Donna, Alie, Mark, Beth, Stuart & Jack….thank you all for making the trip so much fun!  Thanks also to Yvonne (and Callum) for your support while we were away, and also for the support for those crazy crazy crazy late nights of editing last week!

Hope to see you all in October, wherever in the world that might take us:) GO TEAM PARIS!  (secretly hoping for Go Team Auckland next time?!)

Enjoy it.

ps – feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments box below!

Christina & Jay Golian - That we absolutely LOVE it doesn’t even begin to sum it up. As I said when we saw it for the first time ‘I don’t want it to end.’ Thank you for immortalising us on the silver screen in such style. 😉 C&J x

Doina & Ramie’s Wedding Story – Balbirnie House – Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day!

On such a special day, it must be time to share a lovely wedding story!

Wedding Story? Wedding Video? Wedding Films?

What’s the difference?

I think you’ll need to make your own mind up there, but I do hope you’ll see how films like this are so much more than what you may have considered a ‘wedding video’ to be.

Every wedding film is unique and as individual as the couple whose story I aim to tell, and I just love telling those stories, it’s a huge privilege to be involved in such special days in peoples lives. I was reminded of that this week by a former work colleague of mine from my days in the Pharmaceutical Industry who said what an amazing job I have, and she’s right!

So, todays story is from Doina & Ramie who married at Balbirnie House Hotel. The loveliest section of their speeches was the snippet of how they first met, so I just had to share that in their highlights film.

Lemsip and Honey. Brilliant.

Hope you’re having (or are planning to have) a lovely Valentines Day with the one you love!

Enjoy the film!

Need some sunshine? Try this – Balmoral Hotel Wedding Film

Euww, the weather has been nasty the past couple of days hasn’t it.

I was going to blog about a lovely wedding from October, but decided that today it might just be nicer to think about one of those lovely Summer days we had last July instead.

So, welcome to the wedding film of Sian & Alan.  Filmed at the wonderful Balmoral Hotel last July, this is their wedding story. Sian and Alan are just perfect together, and I think you’ll see why over the next few minutes.

Photography that day was by John & Sandra Parris and the trip down to Princes Street Gardens was SO worth it, even if we did have to run back from the West End of Princes Street, to try and beat S&A’s wedding car back to the Balmoral! Next time I’m getting a taxi, those cameras are heavy you know!

So, forget about this awful wintry weather for a few minutes and look forward/back to Summer.

Lift Off!

I’m a day late with this, but yesterday’s ‘official’ launch of Cherry Tree Films took up quite a lot of the day, what with website tweaks and making sure everyone knew of our evolution from Design Scotland Video to our new name of Cherry Tree Films.

We first shared our new name with the lovely folks at Hopetoun House at their Wedding Open Day on Sunday.  We had a great time and it was brill to catch up with some of our favourite Wedding Suppliers, including Blue Sky Photography, Elemental Photography, Rankine Photography, Freja Fashion and of course the utterly amazing Planet Flowers.

Gemma and the team deserve a little bit of a special mention here, for providing us with the most amazing Cherry Tree display – utterly brilliant and even more so as we only gave her a few days notice. Just look at this…..stunning isn’t it!

We really wanted to just thank everyone for their support, both in the run up to the launch (where not many people knew) to the past couple of days where our friends and colleagues have flooded us with good wishes for the future.

One phrase that stuck in my head on Sunday, was from Geoff at 21CC Fireworks, and that was the suggestion of what to call us?  As ‘video’ is dead, what were we now?  We told him we’re simply Wedding Filmmakers….to which he then suggested that we should be ‘cherry-ographers’.  Quite like that, wonder if it would catch on?!

So, thanks everyone.  We are really excited about the future and sharing all our great films and plans for this year.

It’s going to be a blast!

Take care

Goodbye Design Scotland Video. Hello Cherry Tree Films.

Don’t be scared! Things change!

We’ve had this in the pipeline for months now and it’s with great excitement, a little trepidation, and enormous relief that we can at last tell you our story!

We formed Design Scotland Video back in 2001 with little thought for the name of the company itself. Over the years we have built up a superb reputation for fabulous wedding video.

As those years have gone by our style has changed and evolved and we’re now exactly where we want to be, and it really was time to lose the word’ video’ from our name. It’s so ’90s’!

So began the long process to find the identity that would fit perfectly with our new style of work and our ethics as a company.

After many ridiculous ideas conjured up in the car on our way back from weddings – ‘traffic cone films’ was never really an option – we finally found the name we were searching for….Cherry Tree Films.

The Cherry Tree is a highly revered tree and is very significant in Japanese and Chinese culture . It symbolises rebirth and renewal, as well as beauty and love. It all just slotted into place perfectly and Cherry Tree Films was born!

We’re still the same people – no change there – still producing the same award winning wedding films, so don’t worry, the change is a fabulous one!

Oh and if you came here from a recommendation from someone, please do go back and tell them about our exciting news! We want them to know about Cherry Tree Films too!

So, thank you Design Scotland Video, you have served us well.

Thanks also to everyone who has supported us in the changes being made, there’s truly exciting times ahead!

All the best.

February 2, 2011 - 7:21 pm

Mark Graham - All the best Steve and Yvonne! We are looking forward to having Cherry Tree Films at our wedding!

January 31, 2011 - 12:35 pm

Chuck Deleacaes - All the best to you. You have earned it and I love the new name. I know your video’s will be as brilliant as ever.

Lynsay & David – Wedding Film Dundas Castle

Happy New year!

Oops, sorry, I’m a little late. Been a hectic January with getting back to work and a quick stay in hospital for a (planned) Op. Recovering well – albeit losing well over a week’s worktime – so looking forward to next week to resume editing. (Thanks for hanging in there all you lovely clients:))

I thought it really was time to share another highlights from last year.

The Wedding of Lynsay & David at Dundas was fab. A beautiful day and just such a lovely couple.

I think for once I’ll let the film do the talking.

Photography on the day was courtesy of the lovely as ever Mark Archibald from Archibald Photography, you’re a star!

See you in February! (eek where did January go?!)

January 28, 2011 - 2:09 pm

Wedding Trailer – Caroline & Stuart – Hopetoun House

Today is my last day of work before the Christmas break so I thought it only fair to finish with one more trailer….

It’s been an extremely busy few months and the editing schedule has been immense. I’m looking forward SO much to a few days off with Yvonne and Callum. Just some ‘us’ time. I absolutely LOVE Christmas at home.

So, without further ado, I’d like to present a trailer for the Wedding of Caroline & Stuart. A truly brilliant couple, so chilled, so relaxed…and so much in love.

Their story is one I’m so excited about telling – but that’s for the New Year – for now sit back and enjoy a taster of what’s to come. Photography (and great chat) provided by the utterly lovely Niels and Alie from Blue Sky Photography.

Thank you once again to our amazing wedding clients. Your patience in waiting for your turn in the edit queue to finally come around, your passion and enthusiasm to play your part in making a beautiful wedding film…. I want to thank every one of you.

I’ll post more 2010 “thank you’s” before Hogmanay, but just to say my biggest thanks have to go to Yvonne. You are a star!

OK, I on rambled again….

Caroline & Stu. “Happily Ever After”

Happy Christmas one and all!

Laura & Matt – Wedding Trailer – Roman Camp

Well only a few more days of editing before I can sit back and enjoy a few well deserved days off for Christmas:-)

In the meantime I thought I’d share a trailer from Laura & Matt’s fun wedding at Roman Camp.  The whole day was fantastic, just so much fun.  Photography and energy provided by the effervescent Ewen Forsyth, always great fun working with Ewen.

No time to write much just now, I have films to edit…..

Weekend Snapshot

The weekend just gone, was BRILLIANT !

Not only did I get a TON of editing bits and pieces done (lots of little things that needed tying up!) but actually found a couple of hours off each day to chill and have some fun with Yvonne and Callum. Just a few hours here and there really help to keep me sane:-)

The highlight of the weekend has to be our time sledging. Gotta love being a big kid, even Yvonne got stuck in (although she’s a secret adrenaline junkie – see her Auckland blog post from a couple of years back).

Anyhow, just wanted to share a few snaps of us larking about. What isn’t shown is me bailing from the sled at full tilt (hilarious) or me at all thankfully (hey, someone had to hold the camera, and anyway I had terrible wooly-hat hair!).  The Apres-sledge was also good fun, sharing some mulled wine and mince pies with our great friends Roman & Shadi.

Really, a fab weekend.

OK Monday…bring it on!

A much appreciated virtue.

Well it’s that time of year again. The wedding filming is almost over and November through to April is the phrenetic editing time where I sit in front of my Mac for many many hours a day.

It’s also the time where I usually make a little blog post explaining just why things take so long, and also to thank my wonderful couples for just being SO patient!

I think one of the things that sets us apart is the sheer amount of editing time involved in our films. Not only do I spend a LONG time in the editing and post-production phases but each film simply takes as long as it takes. Theres no clock watching, no xyz amount of hours limit on the editing process. Every film really does just take as long as is necessary to make it perfect.

For that reason it’s always hard to put down an exact turnaround time, but we do give an indication and we’re pretty close to that right now. It would be so easy to rush, cut corners and just get films ‘out the door’ in half the time, but that’s simply not what I’m about. I have such pride in the work I do and I really hope that shows.

So thanks once again to all our wonderful couples for being so patient, it really is a great virtue. Thank you.

One superbly patient couple are Emma & Jonathan and I’d like to share with you a trailer for their wedding film, currently in production. We had a fabulous day at Dalhousie Castle and it was great to work with Alan & Jackie Rankine again, the whole day was perfect and and oh that sunset in the cornfield…. just amazing!

So here’s a Trailer to whet the appetite a little, not too long to go now guys!

All the best, and thanks for ‘keeping the faith’.   😉

November 26, 2010 - 1:10 pm

Alie & Niels - Wow! Just simply beautiful. This is why you’re top of your game. A&N

VOWS Awards Winner 2010 – Design Scotland Video – Best Videographer

I’m absolutely chuffed to bits to announce that we’ve just won the 2010 Scottish VOWS Award (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier)  for Best Videographer !

3…is a magic number!

We’ve been nominated every year now since 2006 and I think that alone says something about the consistently high level of customer service we offer, but to have won this award THREE times now (2006, 2008, 2010) gives us such a huge amount of pride in what we do.

2010 has been just  SO rewarding!  To have been a winner in the 2010 Institute of Videography UK Awards for one of our Wedding Films, and now to have won the 2010 VOWS Awards, it’s just been an astonishing year for us!

I’d like to thank each and every one of our wonderful (and patient!) couples for voting for us, it means the world to us that you’d take the time to share your experiences of Design Scotland Video. We’ve made so many new friends over the years and that’s just priceless!

Thanks also to Yvonne and Stuart for all your hard work. I think we have a ton of fun doing what we do, and that shows both in our work and how we approach our weddings and our lovely couples!

The Awards Dinner

We had a fab time at The VOWS Awards dinner and shared some giggles with a bunch of great people from across the Scottish wedding industry. Our table was a hoot, with everyone having being VOWS Nominated.  So thanks to Mette and Duncas from Freja Fashion, Jay & Christina from Elemental Weddings, and Niels & Alie (plus Jill & Olivia) from Blue Sky Photography (they won the ‘best wedding photographer’ category! woop).

We had a great night, SO much fun. Too many peeps to list here but great to see Louisa & Luci from Hopetoun House, Ewan from Drumtochty Castle (your sporran was awesome!), Siobhan from Dundas, Geoff from 21cc Fireworks, Lucy from LG Makeup, and of course our brilliant ‘Team Paris’ mates ‘Donna & Mark of Archibald Photography who were also nominated again this year.  It was great catching up with everyone….we really need more events like this in the calendar:-)

So once again, thanks to everyone who voted for us in the VOWS Awards, both this year and every previous year, we couldn’t have done it without you!  [acceptance speech ends 😉 ]

Nina & Russell – Highlights – Gleneagles Hotel Wedding

You may have seen Nina & Russell’s Trailer a few months back, well now it’s time to share the Highlights sequence from their stunning wedding at Gleneagles Hotel.

There were so many lovely soundbites to use from their wedding that I just had to incorporate quite a few into their highlights and that does give it a slightly different feel.

I think the important thing to remember here is that each one of our wedding films is unique.  They are tailored to  our couples and they tell the story of both their wedding, who they are as a couple and just what they mean to their families and friends.

Nina & Russell, you have been fabulous to work with and I know you are going to continue being so happy together, and will carry on having even more fun now that you are Mr & Mrs Stewart!!

All the very best!

ps – you can also see photos from Nina & Russell’s Wedding over at the Rankine Photography Blog

Nina Stewart - This is a fabulous highlight of the video (which we must have watched about 100 times now!) – thank you so much again for doing such a brilliant job for us. We will treasure the DVD for the rest of our lives.
