Gleneagles Wedding Film Trailer – Ya-lin and Matt

Well what can I say? A spectacular day!

It’s always a pleasure to film at Gleneagles, and this wedding was no different. We had a brilliant day working alongside the ever lovely Alan & Jackie Rankine of Rankine Photography and the weather even played ball after a morning of torrential rain! (Phew!)

Ya-lin was super excited, although I think the boys were initially a little hesitant about being filmed, and I think that stemmed from the thought that they were going to have to act and pose for us.  However as the day went on they definitely felt more comfortable once they realised that we’re looking for the ‘real’, rather than setting up posed scenarios. Relaxed and natural is always what we’re looking for.

The stunning Gleneagles location, Red Hot Chili Pipers, Three Waiters, Photobooth, Fireworks, awesome music all day (Linkin Park during the register signing oh yeah!), a fabulous rockin’ disco, and a couple with a huge sense of fun! (just wait to see their first dance…er…all 35seconds of it 😉

Ya-lin & Matt, thanks for trusting us with your big day, we had a great time and I honestly can’t wait to get stuck into the full edit….

December 20, 2011 - 12:48 pm

Alan & Jackie Rankine - Have only just seen this trailer. Stunning work Steve (& Stuart & Robbie!). Ya-lin & Matt are a wonderful couple and had a truly stunning day at Gleneagles.

Great fun working with you as always! A & J x

November 10, 2011 - 9:22 am

Gail rankin - absolutely beautiful!!

October 18, 2011 - 12:18 am

Ya-lin - Thank you so much for the amazing trailer. It’s so wonderful that we can share this with our family and friends and we can’t wait to see the final video. It captured all the moments of our day so perfectly. You really are the best!

And I definitely agree, the men were a little hesitant about the idea but they soon forgot you were there with your camera. Matt loves the trailer and everything about Cherry Tree Films, and he is now boasting it was his original idea! I’ll let him take the credit this time…..

Thanks again for everything, Ya-lin x

Balmoral Hotel Wedding Trailer – Amy and Roger – Edinburgh Wedding Film

Amy & Roger live in Dubai, but Edinburgh is home, so it was important that their film reminds them of this wonderful city as they sit back in the searing heat and watch back this snapshot of their day. I think even in this short trailer there’s a real sense of an ‘Edinburgh Wedding’.

They were married at Colinton Parish Church and a great part of that was with the minister reading out Amy & Roger’s thoughts on each other. These words were a great hook for me to use in the edit (even if i have saved some of the best lines for the full film!).

As ever, the trailer is just a brief snapshot of the day, but I do hope you can get the feeling of having lots of fun, including a great photoshoot with the fab Jay & Christina of Elemental Weddings and some simply brilliant dancing to ‘Acoustic David’:)

Also check out the simply amazing floristry skills of Gemma and the team at Planet Flowers!!

However it’s not just all about one day, it’s about looking forward to the future and as Roger put it in his speech, “the best is yet to be”

So here goes, 2 minutes of great shots set to their absolutely favourite piece of music…. perfect!

Haley & Josh’s Wedding Film – Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland

I had the pleasure of returning to Gleneagles again last month for the wedding of Hayley & Josh from Washington D.C in the US.  Their closest family and friends made the trip over to Scotland for this truly special day in all of their lives.

This day meant so much to Hayley & Josh.  Their love for each other was clear, and they both know they are meant to be together.  They also know how to have fun…lots of fun!  Their story is one I’m so much looking forward to telling in the main edit, but here is a short highlights just to whet your appetite.

Family Pix – Nairn Beach July 2011

While we were up north for the lovely wedding of Gina & Suresh at Dunphail we stayed in Nairn for a couple of days and had a fab time together just ‘hanging out’. After lunch in Elgin we had a wander along the beach and Nairn and so out came the camera for some posing (Callum seems to have a love/hate relationship with posing!).

Juts a few snaps of the fun, and given the grey weather here in Edinburgh today, a reminder that we can have beautiful weather in Scotland…you just need to embrace it when it ‘s here!

Cameron House Wedding Trailer – Scarlett et Jean-Charles

Scarlett et Jean-Charles… félicitations!

Their Wedding was SO much fun to film, I loved the energy, the real sense of fun and the party atmosphere.  The whole day was a giggle and an absolute pleasure to be part of.

It’s so great to be able to tailor a film to really show something of the couple involved, and I think this trailer shows their personalities perfectly, so will leave it to the film to show you.

PS: the ‘Japonnais’ accent, and the “eeh-ehh’s” in place of “I Do” – completely hilarious!

PPS: this was tough to edit in parts as the whole day was in French, so a huge thanks to Yvonne for translating for me, couldn’t have done it without you! x

August 2, 2011 - 8:17 pm

red dwarf - J’adore! Lovely film, lovely wedding.

July 26, 2011 - 3:59 pm

Ditte @ First Light - Wow – that’s just lovely! What an incredibly beautiful bride!
Great work, as always.

Suresh and Gina’s Trailer – Moray

Nothing for ages and then two trailer posts in two days… (obviously, the second one is coming tomorrow)

It’s been a changeable July, and weather has played its part in many of the weddings this month. However, I know that all the weather does is add a different element to the wedding film.  It certainly never ‘spoils’ a wedding, in fact it makes for some fabulous opportunities visually.  More on that in the final edit to come.

Just to prove a point, here’s a trailer from a couple of weeks back, on what must have been THE wettest day of the year up in Moray.

Suresh & Gina’s Wedding took place in the family church on the family estate at Dunphail, and it was a wonderfully colourful day with lots of Sri Lankan touches (including the monsoon!).  I also got some great footage of a pair of Red Squirrels which was a pretty special bonus! Everyone had a simply great celebration and partyed long into the night…!

So as you’ll see, don’t stress about the weather.  Just concentrate on having a fabulous time!

Lydia & Neil – Wedding Trailer at Dundas Castle Edinburgh

At last another post! It’s been a very hectic few weeks here at Cherry Tree Films. Lots of weddings being filmed and a very intense editing schedule, so finding time for blogs has been hard.

I did want to share my latest trailer with you though. Lydia and Neil’s Wedding at Dundas Castle was just lovely, such a warm and friendly affair, with a couple so much in love – it was a complete joy to film. I’m really looking forward to the main edit coming round in a couple of months, it’s going to be epic!

So for now, no more words… just enjoy a taster of what’s to come…

Mansfield Traquair Wedding – Jennifer & Chris – Edinburgh

I create wedding films in Scotland.

Scotland’s weather can be rather erratic at times.

Often four seasons in one day!

So, it goes without saying that you can plan for everything except the weather.  However that does not mean that rain will spoil a wedding!

Christopher and Jennifer’s Wedding at the stunning St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh, and reception at the always amazing Mansfield Traquair proves this!

I’ll let the film do the talking but I really have to say that their first dance was a whole heap of fun and if C&J are OK with it I’ll share it in full very soon, suffice to say it must have taken a huge amount of practice and preparation! VERY well done guys.

So many beautiful details from the day to show, but a special mention to Planet Flowers for their amazing creations as well as the lovely candle heart at the foot of the stairwell. Also thanks to Ditte at First Light Photography for being just awesome to work with:)Actually you can see some of their photos from the wedding here

Jennifer & Chris…..thank you for letting me capture your special day, and to tell your wonderful story!

All the very best in Oz:)

May 30, 2011 - 11:30 pm

Lucy Gourlay - CherryTree – you are immensely talented – a fabulous video clip. Looked like a lot of fun and I love the first dance. Congratulations to Jennifer and Chris.

May 30, 2011 - 6:28 pm

Paris Trip – this time with Yvonne

It was Yvonne’s birthday a couple of weeks ago and for once I decided to plan something a little more special!

The week leading up to her birthday co-incided nicely with helping Callum prepare for a big French test at school. So at the end of an intensive French speaking week at home (thankfully Yvonne can speak French as mine is terrible, bordering on hilarious!) it was brilliant to surprise Yvonne with a trip to Paris leaving 3 days later!

To be honest it was the first time I’ve arranged anything like that as holidays are Yvonne’s thing (she is the wedding planner after all!) so thankfully she was delighted I had managed to get everything right:)

We had a fabulous four days in Paris, with a quick (but long) day of sightseeing the main attractions, and then 3 days just chilling, walking and soaking up the atmosphere of a truly wonderful city.

I’ve not had time to look through the snaps I took until today, so decided to pop a few on the blog for all to see.

It was just so good to get away together after a very hectic few weeks, and recharge ahead of an extremely busy summer. I must admit the pace of life in France was genuinely seductive, I could so get used to that….I think we’ve finally decided on the country we’ll retire too (many years in the future of course:)

Enjoy (we did!).

Chris & Paige’s Wedding at Dalhousie Castle – Edinburgh Wedding Video

Just wanted to drop this into the blog as it’s ‘hot off the press’. It’s a film from a recent solo shoot at Dalhousie Castle.

Paige and Chris were great fun to be around.  Chris is an Ice Hockey Player in Dundee – a long way from home (and from Paige).  So when they finally decided to marry (and in Scotland) it was always going to be an intimate affair, just the two of them and a bunch of friends (also Hockey players).  As Paige and Chris spend a lot of time apart, while Chris plays Hockey over here, it was just so special for them to be together here in Scotland.  So as well as enjoying a highly emotional day, their main focus was on having fun!

It was a pleasure working with Yvonne who runs Scottish Wedding Planners as she put the whole day together for them, and I think you’ll agree their day was everything they wanted to be – a perfect blend of emotion and fun!

“here’s to you, here’s to me….forever friends we will be…” (you know where this is going don’t you Chris? Ha ha!)

Enjoy the film.

September 8, 2011 - 6:24 am

Will - Seriously brilliant video from Chris and Paige’s wedding. I’ve heard you were very good, now I see the video I know why. There’s a lot of skill goes into you work, you have great bokeh going on, love the low sweeping angles and the time lapse at the start, all beautifully put together with the song…shooting on a 7D/5DmkII by any chance?

Congrats on the brilliant work anyway.

Beth & Rob’s Extended Trailer – Guthrie Castle Wedding Film

Trailers are brilliant to edit as they not only give the couple the chance to see a special short film of their wedding just a few days afterwards, but they also give me the chance to take a quick peek through the footage before it get’s popped into the edit queue for the full edit some (or ‘many’ during the summer months!) weeks later.

Beth & Rob were married on a beautiful April Day in an outdoor ceremony at Guthrie Castle – a fabulous location.  The whole day was just about enjoying time with family and friends and above all having fun.  From Rob’s love of his BMW Z4 (and Beth of course) to the amazing first dance they choreographed (and worked very hard at perfecting)  the day was filled with very special moments for them both, and I think we managed to capture them pretty well.

There are all sorts of emotions on the wedding day, and it’s great to show those in the film, both the fun and excitement, but also the building tension as the ceremony draws closer.  I really hope this film gives you a sneak peek at Beth & Rob’s special day, they certainly enjoyed it (Note to Beth & Rob: Thank’s SO much for the lovely bottle of bubbly – very kind and very much appreciated!)

The (extended) Trailer below was posted 7 days after the wedding and was watched by friends and family far and wide.  It really is a great way to let people get a teaser of what is to come, and also to show them a brief reminder while the day is still fresh in guests minds.

I must say a special thanks to the great staff at Guthrie Castle – they were just really helpful and accommodating, also thanks to photographer David Bryce – great working with you!

Stirling Castle Winter Wedding Film

I wanted to share my last winter wedding film, admittedly as we head through Spring and hurtle  towards Summer!

This clip is the Highlights film from Nicola & Richard’s Wedding at the stunning Holy Rude Church in Stirling, followed by a beautiful reception at Stirling Castle.  The heavy snow the days before turned the whole area into a total winter wonderland, but the blue skies and lovely winter sunlight helped to make the day look just amazing.

I decided to keep the soundbites to the ceremony as that was a very important part of the day for these guys, and the church is just such a stunning building.  So coupled with the indoor photoshoot with photographer David Ho (always a pleasure David!) and the amazing transformation of the Great Hall at Stirling Castle courtesy of 88 Events – this wedding was full of wonderful visual treats.

My highlight?  Personally it was chasing the VW Beetle up the icy road from the church to the Castle and managing not to fall flat on my face:)

A lovely chilled winter wedding film.  Enjoy.

January 23, 2012 - 11:32 pm

Alan Hutchison - Fabulous work guys, I’m sure at some point we’ll bump into each other and I’ll get a chance to see how pull this wicked stuff together 😉

Winter Wedding Film – Dundas Castle Wedding Video

Decisions Decisions!

It’s during the editing that the feel of my wedding films really start to take shape, and often I’m faced with many decisions of ‘which way to go’ with a particular edit.  The music, the footage, the couple, the story I’m trying to tell…all takes a lot of time to work out in the planning stage.

Lindsey & Kenny’s edit was just one of those films.  Since their Wedding Trailer some months back had a real fun upbeat feel, it was important to do something a little different and after putting together the whole film, and a separate highlights film I still had a feeling that I really wanted to use a beautiful ceremony reading by Kenny’s step-father that didn’t feature prominently elsewhere.

It’s a reading I’ve heard many times in different guises, but it was read with so much depth and a wonderful dramatic pacing, that I just had to make a feature of it and create a special extra sequence.

So, here it is – “These are the hands of your best friend”

April 22, 2011 - 4:43 pm

Ricki deGravelles - That is indeed an absolutely beautiful reading, and it works so nicely in this video.

I love when the weddings of people I don’t know make me tear up :)

April 21, 2011 - 12:55 am

Lindsey Stewart - Steve thank you sooo much for the most amazing memories of our special day! We LOVE the films and have watched them countless times already, and I’m sure we will continue to do so for years to come…

You really are fantastic at what you do!

Lindsey and Kenny x
