Rod & Jaimie’s Extended Trailer – Dalhousie Castle Wedding Film Edinburgh

It’s been so long since my last post, so sorry… had lots to do!

Time to share something from Rod & Jaimie’s lovely wedding at Dalhousie Castle. They’re a perfect match, and they were just so happy to spend their special day with family, friends, eagles, penguins, Aston Martins, Irn Bru, Helicopters (a big thing in Rod’s life!)…and us.

One of Rod & Jamie’s shared passions is Sci-Fi, so the perfect choice for a dramatic piece of music for this trailer came from “Star Trek – The Movie”. Every one of our films is individual, and it’s just great to be able to really tailor an edit to tell unique wedding stories about each couple. I do think this one really is “Rod & Jaimie!” (and they agree!).

The very poignant reading really did lend itself to telling this particular story. Life is indeed a journey, and a wedding is a very important step along the way. We’re very privileged to be part of such an intimate day in peoples lives. So very lucky.

Here’s a sneak peek at Rod & Jaimie’s wonderful day.  Enjoy!

CherryTreeAdmin - It’s a different kind of trailer, very dramatic, and the heli shots were so important as it was a big part of the day. It really was the perfect way to show off R&J’s wedding :)

Balmoral Hotel Wedding Trailer – Laurel & Robbie

As one of the speakers said, Scotland is famed for it’s hospitality and ‘funny dancing’. I think that helps to sum up this wonderful wedding at The Balmoral in Edinburgh. (the hospitality that is, not the funny dancing!)

This Anglo-American wedding was just great fun to be part of, and the hospitality was indeed truly world class!

From the amazing Vera Wang dress, the jigsaw puzzles, games of ‘Articulate’, the Dom Perignon, the beautiful ceremony from Duncan Robertson, to the crazy ceilidh dancing led by Bahookie and the photography skills of the wonderful Jay & Christina of Elemental Weddings. Laurel & Robbie had a brilliant day filled with fun and lots (and lots) of laughter.

Here’s a trailer film of their fabulous day!

Mansfield Traquair Wedding Film – Edinburgh

Where do I start?

The wedding of Abigail & Steven.
Canongate Kirk.
Mansfield Traquair.
Stunning! What else is there to say?

A lovely couple, lovely family, guests there ready to have a ton of fun and fabulous lighting for speeches and dancing (have I ever mentioned that’s a bugbear of mine?! so a huge thanks Heritage Portfolio and I just love Mansfield Traquair for that very reason).
Check out some stunning dresses too made by our friends over at Freja Fashion, wonderful Wedding Dress Designers in Edinburgh.
Plus some really touching speeches, a truly beautiful ceremony, and a whole heap of wonderful raw emotion.

A truly wonderful concoction of things to work with as a filmmaker.

Here’s what came out of it, hope you like it.

Enjoy!

PS: I was a little behind schedule in delivering this film, so one of my favourite comments was “it was well worth the wait”. Thanks for being so very patient guys, really chuffed that it was worth waiting for! Also big thanks to the guys at Duke Photography – fun working with you, as ever.

A Pipe Band, Fireworks, Chainsaws and more at Hopetoun House – Wedding Trailer

Chainsaw? Yes you read that correctly and no it’s not some zombie themed wedding, but the spectacular wedding of Catriona & Ross at Hopetoun House that we filmed  a couple of weeks ago.

OK the chainsaw was a tiny part, just one little in-joke that showed their sense of fun towards the whole occasion.  A little bit of tradition, mixed in with a whole heap of fun. [Oh and ‘don’t ask’ about the Morph suit! What happens on the Stag(s) stays on the Stag apparently!]

A wonderful day and in the fabulous company of Blue Sky Photography, Planet Flowers, 21cc Fireworks, LG Makeup and Hopetoun House.

So here’s a short teaser of the day… looking forward to sharing more when the full edit time comes around.

Have a great week!

Liane - Am so thrilled for you two! How lovely to be able to see your wedding day from so far away!

Love to you both.

My best advice aside from ALWAYS saying I love you before going to sleep (even if sometimes it is through gritted teeth lol)…is if you must argue, argue naked. xxxx

Niels & Alie - Cracking film – it takes us straight back to an incredible wedding day… Brilliantly shot guys!

Hopetoun House Wedding Film – Christina & Chris

One of the things about Christina & Chris’ wedding that made it so much fun to film, was that there were so many familiar friendly faces (as I’ve filmed a number of friends weddings over the past couple of years) so it was just great seeing everyone again.

Actually, I think that’s the thing, there were just so many beaming delighted faces.  Everyone had a complete ball at the wedding, and Christina & Chris’ sense of fun shone throughout.

The dancing… the dancing…. not only the great band that is Kilter, but also the footage I have during the Status Quo’s number “Rockin’ all over the world” will stay with me forever…just hilarious mad jumpy energy. Absolutely loved it. (the 2 min Quo montage in the main wedding film still makes me grin from ear to ear!)

We had a brilliant day, helped along by Jennifer and her amazing team at Hopetoun House, plus the greatness of Niels and Alie of Blue Sky Photography (I do wonder sometimes if I have too much fun at weddings?  nah!)

Christina & Chris, so glad you loved the films, thanks again for placing your trust in us!

Surprise Leap year Wedding Proposal in Edinburgh on 29th Feb

We had a fab time this afternoon filming the completely stunned reactions of Rachad as his girlfriend Genevieve took advantage of the Feb 29th leap year tradition, and proposed on The Royal Mile in Edinburgh!

A speechless Rachad watched as Geneveive flew him all the way from the UAE to spend a romantic few days in Scotland, and to pop the question with the aid of a brass band and choir on the Royal Mile.

So without further ado here’s a short clip of the event…. There will be more to come as we get more time to edit a more complete story but for now here it is…

You can also see photos from the proposal courtesy of the lovely folks at Elemental Weddings.

Did Rachad say yes…. well watch and find out!!

But you took all that in your stride too!) Fab work and CONGRATULATIONS Rachad & Genevieve..I’m off to find a tissue to wipe away my tears – beautiful xxx

Balmoral Hotel Wedding in Edinburgh – Amy & Roger – Wedding Film

I love speeches, and ceremonies.  Now that might be an odd thing to say, when there are perhaps more ‘glamorous’ parts of the wedding day to be filmed, like the photoshoot, or maybe some funky dancing?

The thing is, I want to tell stories.  I want to tie up so many different parts of the wedding day and tell the couples story using not only images, and music but also some very carefully selected soundbites.

I can’t stress enough how important these parts are, and I get such a kick out of editing when it all starts to come together. The thrill of editing a film that not only tells the story but captures something of the personality of the couple never tires:)

Amy & Roger’s wedding was brilliant.  They have such a relaxed and fun outlook on life (maybe some of that sunny Dubai lifestyle helps!) and they really wanted to capture that sense of fun, and balance it with the emotion of the day, and show the love that they share.  They also wanted to make sure that while they were sitting in the searing heat of Dubai, that they could really get a ‘feel’ for being back ‘home’ in Edinburgh.

Filming was a hoot, such a laugh (should we really have that much fun while working? yeah!) and huge thanks go to Jay & Christina of Elemental Weddings for being just SO good to work with, thanks guys. Also major thanks to the team at The Balmoral – always a total and utter pleasure working at such an amazing venue!

So, with all the pre-planning chats, the footage on the day, and those wonderful soundbites from the speeches and ceremony….

I created this.

Hope you like it.

Lesley & Joseph – Murthly Castle Wedding Highlights

Apparently today (3rd Monday in January) is “Blue Monday” a low point of the post-Christmas period.

So I thought I’d do my bit and spread some sunny cheer with a lovely Highlights Film from Lesley & Joseph’s Wedding at Murthly Castle.

Since being a child when her grandfather used to work on the Estate, Lesley has always wanted to be married at Murthly Castle,  so it really is a dream come true, and truly special day.  Joseph’s Australian family brought with them some stunning weather, and a massive amount of laughter to boot!

Their Scottish wedding was the perfect blend of emotion, excitement, anticipation and downright fun!

So, on this ‘blue’ day (allegedly… I still believe that life is what you make it) hopefully it’ll raise a smile.

Have a good one!

Becky & Nikhil’s Wedding at Pollokshields Burgh Hall

The film below is from Becky & Nikhil’s Wedding at the lovely Pollokshields Burgh Hall, a day full of fun, excitement, laughter and ‘green’ (sorry Becky 😉 teehee)

Becky & Nik’s Wedding was planned to perfection (by Becky!) and all those little touches and details made it such a special day for them. I think the one thing that came out of it though was just the sheer excitement of the day.  Becky & Nik are so much in love, and this day meant everything to them.  Getting all their close family and friends together to celebrate, and making sure they had fun, was a big thing and that’s certainly how it turned out.

Robbie and I had a total hoot filming that day, and I must make a special thank you for including us in the just stunning Indian Feast that was the Wedding Breakfast.  Not sure I’ve ever tasted Indian food that good before… plus I’m not sure how we managed to pick up our totally stuffed ‘selves off the chair to film the evening celebrations!

I knew just how important the Wedding Film was to these guys so I’m so chuffed they are delighted with it, and I just had to share their Highlights Film with you all.

So, a huge thanks to you Becky & Nik… for being so patient with the long wait for the film, for being such an awesome couple to work with on the day, and for that taste tingling feast 😀

I’m so chuffed you loved the films, and look forward to reading all about your future together! (Oh I forgot to mention Becky is becoming a prolific wedding blogger, so you can read more about their journey here at The OliveDragonfly )

Take good care of each other guys!

Happy New Year 2012

Hope you all had a fabulous Christmas and New Year break.

We had a really chilled and fun time, so chilled that I didn’t take any video footage, nor any (decent) photos! Quite an achievement for me!

It was great to take some time off and spend it with Yvonne and Callum – really needed it after a pretty frantic few months, and it felt like I’d hardy seen them in the weeks before Christmas!

So after an awesome break I’m feeling totally revitalised, and champing at the bit to work through the backlog of editing from the remaining 2011 weddings:)

Got some really great films to share with you over the coming months! (even if I do say so myself)

So, here’s to a fabulous 2012 for us all.

Take care and have a good one!

All the best.

Have a very merry cherry Christmas!

Wow, where has the past month gone!  Well, it’s meant me being pretty much chained to my edit suite working some mad hours to get through the backlog of weddings for 2011.

I’ve still got lots left to do of course as I complete my editing for the 2011 weddings, and I have some rather amazing clips to share form the past few weeks, so do watch out for the first couple of blog posts of 2012,  something pretty darned lovely!!

For today though I just had to get one more blog post in before Christmas so thought it might be a good idea to post something fun and upbeat – from the Wedding of Jean-Charles and Scarlett at Cameron House.

Their wedding was all about having fun, just a group of close friends and family celebrating their marriage, from the hilarious ceremony (even without the English translation) to the brilliant first dance, Jean-Charles & Scarlett had a ball.

Oh and hugest thanks to Yvonne for translating for me, would’ve been rather tricky without her help!!

I’m off now to recharge the batteries over the Christmas period, to spend some time with my wonderful wife Yvonne, and my charming young lad Callum! (I’m dead excited for Santa’s visit!)

I hope you all enjoy your Christmas break, take good care of the ones you love and HAVE A BLAST!

VOWS AWARDS 2011 WINNER – Best Videographer

Wow!

We’re chuffed, humbled and very very proud to announce that we were once again presented with the hugely prestigious VOWS (Voted Outstanding Wedding Supplier) Award 2011 for Wedding Videographer at the fabulous awards Ceremony held in Glasgow on Monday night.

It’s actually our FOURTH time as Winners (in 2006, 2008, 2010, plus finalists in 2007 and 2009) although they were all under our previous alter ego of Design Scotland Video before we rebranded.  So although it’s not our first time, the sense of achievement and pride grows each year, as does our commitment to maintaining our award winning standards!

The fact that the VOWS Awards are voted for by our wonderful couples is the biggest pat on the back we could possibly have, and it’s so rewarding to know we’re offering truly exceptional customer service as well as pretty awesome films (that’s what our couples say anyway!)

So a massive thanks to the best wedding couples in the world – OURS!

The party was brilliant fun and it was so great to see our good friends Jay & Christina of Elemental Weddings scoop the prize in the Wedding Photography category, and also share a table with the lovely Niels & Alie of Blue Sky Photography who were also nominated finalists.  Add in Jennifer Pirie from Hopetoun and the three of us, and it was a heck of a table to be on, boy did we all party!  😀

Big thanks go to the SWD team and Liz at the VOWS Awards for organising a fabulous night, it just keeps getting better and better! Thank you!

You can see the full list of winners and finalists here A huge congratulations to everyone who won and all the nominees, well done EVERYONE!

Qian and Qing’s Dundas Castle Dream – Wedding Film

Qian and Qing’s Wedding was just beautiful. The thought and attention to detail that had gone into the planning was immense and Qian’s vision of her perfect wedding day in Scotland most definitely came true!

It was a chilly day but the sun came out on occasions and the wedding party had a great time with archery, pipers and dancers, trying to play the bagpipes, and just taking in the beauty of Dundas Castle estate. Speaking of beauty….the flowers? Oh my word…. Crafted by the amazing Planet Flowers team, they were a highlight of this lovely intimate wedding.

It was also another opportunity to have some fun with Jay & Christina of Elemental Weddings, a pleasure…every single time:)

Finally, thanks go to Yvonne from Scottish Wedding Planners for putting the whole day together, Qian, Qing and their guests looked like they had a total blast and that couldn’t have happend without your careful planning! Qian really relied on you that day!

So, the film….

Qing’s insistance to also do his speech in English was just lovely, he was so eloquent and it begged to be used…… Some great fun with a great crowd of people. Warm, friendly and welcoming… and utterly determined to enjoy every minute of their trip! They certainly did!

Enjoy.

15 years today! Happy Anniversary Yvonne!

Happy Anniversary to us!

This is where it all began…. well actually it was a good few years before that day, but this picture shows the view we had when I ‘popped the question’ to Yvonne and that day led to the most amazing 17 years in Edinburgh together!

I know it’s unoriginal to share a line I’ve heard many times at weddings, but it really rings true to me…

15 years ago today, I married my best friend!

Today? Well she’s still my best friend. Caring, loving, beautiful, smart, funny… I could go on (and will privately).

So, here’s to ‘US’ Mrs T.  Here’s to another fun filled 15 years (and far beyond) of happy times!

Cheers! Salute!

Claire & Neil – Hopetoun House Wedding Film Highlights

To Claire… to Claire… to Claire…

I loved those words in the film as it’s a perfect build up to the wonderful speech by Neil about his new wife!

Neil loves Claire.  A lot. (It’s mutual too btw!) It really shows through in the film too, and after working with these guys on their wedding day the edit just seemed to fit together in my mind and I knew how I wanted to put it all together, and exactly what song to use (even though it wasn’t actually one of their choices!).

So I’ll forgo the long descriptions here and just let the film do the talking!

A great day at the stunning, stunning Hopetoun House and always a pleasure to work alongside the very talented Jay & Christina from Elemental Weddings – ALWAYS good fun!

Thanks again Claire and Neil, you were just fabulous to work with!  I’d like to raise a toast to you….with a cheeky little ‘Rusty Nail’ (gotta love hipflasks 😉

Enjoy!
